Alert Issued For Isolated Severe Storms With Damaging Wind Gusts, Frequent Lightning

There is the potential for an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm with damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning for much of the area, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Statement issued late Sunday afternoon, July 28.

The storm chance would be for early in the evening Sunday for the following areas: Northern Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange and Northern Fairfield counties.

While the threat is highest in those counties, there is a chance for thunderstorms for the entire region through the early evening until about 9 p.m.

This starts a stretch of an unsettled weather pattern ushered in by the return of warmer air and higher humidity.

Storms are again possible on Monday, July 29, starting in the afternoon and continuing through the evening, on a mostly sunny day with a high temperature near 90 degrees.

Tuesday, July 30 will also be mostly sunny with a high in the upper 80s with a chance of storms starting in the afternoon.

Thunderstorms become likely starting on Wednesday morning, July 31 with isolated storms continuing throughout the afternoon and evening on a mostly sunny day with a high temperature in the mid 80s.

August starts with another unsettled day on Thursday, Aug. 1, which will be partly sunny with a high temperature around 84 degrees and storms possible in the afternoon and evening.
